Embracing Adventure and Identity: Meet Author Rebecca Reed

Some people are born with a thirst for adventure, and Rebecca Reed is one of them. A natural storyteller, Rebecca crafts tales about characters navigating the journey to discover their identity and purpose—a journey she knows well.

Her life has been a tapestry of diverse experiences, from riding racehorses to welding, teaching Spanish, and traveling to distant lands. She sees every obstacle as a challenge to be conquered, a philosophy that breathes life into her writing.

A deep love for Jesus, animals, and nature shapes Rebecca’s stories and her everyday life. Nestled on her rural Indiana farm, you might find her listening to an audiobook while tending to her animals or dreaming up her next novel. As an active member of ACFW and Novel.Academy, she continually hones her craft, embracing the call to be a storyteller with faith and passion.

A Lifelong Fascination with Scotland

Rebecca’s imagination has always stretched beyond borders. As a child, she stood in her family’s garden and declared that the damp spring air reminded her of the moors of Scotland—despite never having visited. Years later, she would set foot on Scottish soil and confirm what her heart had always known: the land was filled with the kind of magic and mystery that inspires great stories.

Her books take readers on transformative journeys filled with supernatural power, leading characters to discover their true purpose. Through her writing, Rebecca extends an invitation: join the adventure, embrace change, and find freedom in faith.

Transformation Over Comfort

Rebecca believes that true change comes when we let go of comfort and embrace transformation. As she beautifully puts it, “God can’t bring change if we hold too tightly to comfort. We are either being conformed from the outside, or transformed from the inside.” This belief is reflected in her stories, where characters face struggles that ultimately shape them into who they were meant to be.

As Galatians 5:1 reminds us: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Through her novels, Rebecca offers readers not just an escape, but a deeper understanding of faith, resilience, and purpose.

Q&A with Rebecca Reed

What do you hope readers will take away from your book? Are there specific themes or messages that are close to your heart?
I hope that readers come away from Quinn and Tiago’s story with a greater trust in God. Secrets only make the darkness darker and isolate us further than we’ve isolated ourselves. Forgiveness and hope allow us to step into the goodness God wants for our lives.

My books tend toward grittier topics—Loving the Rodeo Queen deals with surviving assault and trauma. Winning the Twin’s Heart is about overcoming the loss of parents and fear of being hunted by bad guys who happen to be your family—but there is always a thread of hope and light. I believe the world needs messages of how God’s truth and light provide the hope that’s necessary to overcome darkness. Those are the stories I try to write.

What’s a scene or plot twist in your book that almost didn’t make it in? Why did you decide to keep it?
The scenes involving Willy, the pro basketball player, almost got cut, but another story down the road needs Quinn’s knowledge of the fundraiser he tells her about. Plus, he’s an awesome and fun character. I think he adds a lot of humor and lightness to a dark part of the plot. He’s like an angel to Quinn and a truth-teller.

What has been the most surprising or rewarding aspect of your writing career so far?
The connections I’ve made with other authors and with readers. I’ve been overwhelmed by the helpfulness of other authors and their generosity with advice, time, and encouragement. From prayers to Zoom calls to brainstorming to help with uploading books or creating covers, there’s no end to the willingness of others to help someone who asks a question or voices a need. Being part of this community is a reward unto itself.
