Meet Briggs and Rosie: The Heart Behind the Dogs of Hope Rock

These two loyal Vizslas aren’t simply supporting characters. In many ways, they’re the heartbeat of the story.

Sweetest Dogs You Will Ever Meet

Their playful personalities, unwavering devotion, and gentle presence help bring people together when they need each other most. And while Hope Rock is a fictional town nestled in the Colorado mountains, Briggs and Rosie were inspired by something very real: my own life with Hungarian Vizslas.

For many years, my husband Martin and I have had the privilege of sharing our home with these extraordinary dogs. Anyone who has ever loved a Vizsla understands that they are unlike any other breed. They are affectionate, intelligent, energetic, and deeply devoted to their families.

Always at Your Side

Vizslas are often called “velcro dogs” because they love being close to their people. If you’re sitting, they’ll sit beside you. If you’re walking, they’ll walk with you. If you’re working, they’ll likely be curled up at your feet, quietly keeping you company.

They don’t simply live in our homes; they become woven into the fabric of our lives.

Over the years, Martin and I have also had the incredible privilege of caring for two litters of Vizsla puppies. Watching those tiny pups grow from sleepy newborns into adventurous, curious companions was one of the greatest joys we’ve experienced.

We’ve Got Puppies!

Each puppy had its own unique personality. Some were bold and fearless. Others were gentle observers who preferred to watch before joining the fun. Yet every single one possessed the same remarkable capacity for love.

There is something incredibly special about raising puppies. It reminds you to slow down and appreciate life’s simple moments—the first wobbly steps, playful pounces, tiny yawns, and the pure excitement they bring to every new discovery.

Those experiences naturally found their way into my writing.

When I created Briggs and Rosie, I wanted readers to experience what I’ve witnessed firsthand: the quiet way dogs help heal our hearts.

Dogs have an extraordinary ability to sense when we’re hurting. They don’t ask questions. They don’t offer advice. They simply stay close, offering comfort through their presence alone.

I believe God created animals with a special purpose. Their unconditional love reminds us of His faithfulness every single day.

As Proverbs 12:10 reminds us:

“The righteous care for the needs of their animals.”

That verse has always resonated with me because caring for our animals has brought immeasurable blessings to our own family. Every wagging tail, every muddy paw print, and every quiet moment spent together has become part of our story. And now, through Briggs and Rosie, I have the joy of sharing a little piece of that story with you.
